ramp Momoko Kimura & Ryuji Hasegawa collaboration exhibition
Camphor wood, water, tiles, marble
Variable size
In our two-person exhibition "ramp," we divided half of Ryuji Hasegawa's studio shed with a wall, filled the space with water, and made that space his artwork, while I placed my sculptures inside.
The term "ramp" refers to a ramp connecting areas with elevation differences, or to a slope or gradient.
It serves as a metaphor for various aspects of this exhibition, such as connecting Hasegawa's work with my own, and connecting the perspective of everyday life with the perspective from which we view artwork.
The sculptures existed in space not as vertical columns, but as ramps (sloping walkways connecting areas with elevation differences) leaning at an angle.
Thin strips of lumber are separated into a braided shape, and then the bundles are carved to form grooves.
The wood, disassembled in a twisted and contorted manner, was dismantled as a culmination of a single act, yet its form was rewoven.
